So I guess a question you may be asking is what service do I need?
Electric actuated switches, digital memory, motors and e-cables, algorithms and data collection, software upgrades and apps .. am I losing you in the technical jargon? You just want to get on your bike and ride the thing, with no hassles or error codes appearing? Well this is the service you want to choose.
Our mechanics in the workshop are no longer just that, they are now also software/electronic gurus when it comes to your e-bike.
They first take their time in conducting a full comprehensive inspection before starting any service job and listing items to replace or attention needed, in an open and transparent manner.
This is then followed by disassembling all components from the bike, we then wash and inspect frame / wheels / motor for any damage or degradation. With a good soak and scrub of all your drivetrain parts in our eco friendly, NON solvent parts washer, they are then inspected, lubed, greased and torqued back onto your bike, then tuning of both gears and brakes are done. The battery unit is then removed and cleaned using Muc-off e-bike ultra corrosion on the contact points, we follow up by recharging the battery fully. Motor covers are removed, areas are all cleaned and inspected, with a firmware up-grade and diagnostics completed. Lastly we polish everything to the point of being brand new again, ready for - ‘It’s you now only faster, cleaner and perhaps technology wise, a little smarter!’
One of the most common questions we're asked: How often should I get my e-bike looked at by a mechanic?
Given the immense power/torque e-bike motors produce, they put a lot of stress and load throughout parts like the chain, cassettes and chainring. In addition we see brake pads and brake fluid needing replacement sooner than on analog bikes due to the typically heavier weight of e-bikes.
Therefore we recommend a service interval of every 4 months or every 1,000km. If you ride it everyday to work or you race - every 3 months.
Provided the service is pre-booked with us, the typical turn around time for a basic service is 1 day. It will take a mechanic approximately 1 hour to perform this service.
What is included?
A basic service at bikeNOW includes the following
- Full safety inspection
- Light clean of frame and wheels
- Tighten all bolts to specification
- Gear adjustment front and rear
- Brake adjustment front and rear
- Inflation of tires *)
- Lubricate chain and derailleur pivots *)
- Lubricate shift and brake cables
- Battery unit removed, cleaned, Muc-off e-bike ultra corrosion applied to the contact points and charging of battery
- Firmware up-grade
- Motor covers removed, contact areas all cleaned and inspected
- Something extra you wouldn't expect from other stores
- Test ride to ensure proper function
As with every service you will receive a bikeNOW Aftercare envelope, which explains in some easy steps how to look after your bike between rides. This will ensure you get the most out of this service and your bike. The mechanic will also explain the work conducted and point out anything that might need attention in future.

A helpful 'how to video' in determining chain wear, will guide you through the effects it has on your bike and when you should be replacing it.
*Due to the nature of e-bikes and the amount of torque put through your drivetrain, we suggest in checking your chain every month as they'll wear quicker then a conventional bike.
Wearing at .5: At bare-Minimum a Basic Service is needed here providing no other issues are present. Otherwise an Expert or E-bike Service will help maintain optimal functionality while keeping it pristinely clean.
Worn at .75: It's definitely time for either a Expert, E-bike or a Pro Service and to arrange it as soon as possible. Expect that you'll need to replace some wearable parts within these services, from general use.
